Dr Phillip Martin

Medical Director

 

Dr Phillip Martin is a well-recognised Aero Medical consultant; he has been a physician for some 44 years specialising in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine and Aviation and Retrieval Medicine, including both emergency evacuation and strategic retrieval medicine. Dr Martin has also worked with RFDS W.A Section for 20 years as an Emergency Doctor and subsequently founded International Aeromedicine Services, which established the first pure jet air ambulance service, based out of Perth, Western Australia.

 

He has held such positions as:

  • Senior Registrar University Department of Surgery, Fremantle Hospital

  • Reliving Medical Director RFDS WA, over 20 year period.

  • Emergency Medical retrieval doctor, over 30 years

  • Member RFDS Medical Advisory Committee 15 years (including Deputy Chairman)

  • CASA designated aviation examiner 30 years

  • European Aviation Safety Authority examiner 5 years

  • He is active in both the Aeromedical Society of Australia and Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine

 

Brendon Vagg

Director Medical Operations

Brendon Vagg is a MICA Paramedic with over 21 years’ experience in Paramedicine/ pre-hospital Care in the resource and non-resources industries.

Brendon has vast senior manager experience in Health, Safety, and Emergency response and pre-hospital care from around the globe, and has worked in numerous countries such as Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Saudi Arabia, North America and Canada and hold the qualifications of Bachelor of Paramedic Health Science and Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Health & Safety, Grad Diploma in Critical Care and aviation medicine.

 

He has held the positions of:

  • Global HSEC Manager

  • Director H&S

  • Corporate HSEC Manager

  • National H&S Manager

  • Ambulance Operations Manager

Bruce Wicksteed

Clinical Services Manager

R.N., Bsc (Nurs), GradDipSc, GradCert(Paramed), GradCertRetrievalMed, Churchill Fellow

 

Bruce Wicksteed is an experienced Critical Care Registered Nurse, Ambulance Paramedic, and Flight Paramedic with over 20 years of acute clinical experience in both tertiary level hospital and pre-hospital settings.  Bruce has a strong professional interest in retrieval medicine, critical care, pediatrics, pre-hospital and disaster medicine.

 

Churchill Fellow - In 2013 Bruce was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to examine varied models of paediatric retrieval service in 6, countries with the aim of using the information gathered in developing a dedicated paediatric retrieval service for Western Australia.

 

Bruce is also the author of several pediatric intensive care resources currently used in all major hospitals www.criticalkids.com
